We headed to the AgroEcology farm to install our 4 birdhouses. We decided to put the birdhouses as close to the crops as possible, so the birds would eat the insects directly around the plants. We also made sure to put them at far distances from each other, as blue birds are known to be territorial. The boxes were screwed directly into wooden posts that were surrounded by a fence, which is good for keeping out predators.
Now that we knew which bird house that would be most beneficial to the farm, we were able to start construction on the houses. With the help of RA Spencer and Meghan Teten, we were able to measure, cut, and construct the houses. We constructed the bird house so that it could easily be mounted onto a wooden stake, and added hinges so that each house can be opened and cleaned out.
The first step to getting our birdhouses done, was setting a time for everyone to meet. Due to all of our very busy schedules, this took a lot of effort. After comparing schedules, we decided to allot 2 days, October 3 and 9, for the construction and installment of the birdhouses. We were to spend the 3rd with RA spencer constructing the houses, and the 9th with Allison Reeves installing them.
Once we figured out who was in our group we had to brainstorm to determine how we were going to go about this multimedia project. We had many different ideas of what type of project we could do such as a video, a Kahoot, or a website. As a group we decided we wanted to do a website to showcase our information. Once that was decided, we then worked together to figure out what kind of birdhouses we wanted to build. Out of the option we were given for which type of birdhouse to make, we decided the Bluebird Birdhouse would be the best option.
