Throughout the project (and the EcoVillage course), I was able to gain a greater sense for sustainability as well as a greater appreciation for it. I enjoyed doing the Integrated Pest Management project mainly because I got to help build birdhouses and because I think it's important to have natural means of pest management as opposed to harmful pesticides that can negatively affect an ecosystem's health. I like the Agroecology Farm's mission to serve NC State and I believe what they're doing is great and should be more known across campus. Going into the project I was unaware that a portion of the food in the dining halls came from NC State owned agriculture. In the future, given the resources necessary, I think being self reliant on food would be a great accomplishment for the university. I will be interested in what bird species move into our birdhouses in the coming months and what their effects will be in regard to the pests on the farm. The skills I picked up while working on this project will help me as I delve deeper into my college career, especially in relation to my major (Environmental Science).
